Saint Clare’s Convent, Glenvale is home to a community of Sisters of St Clare. It is set in the heart of the beautiful countryside of County Down where creation itself seems to reflect the abundant goodness of God. The serenity and peacefulness of Glenvale makes it an ideal setting to “come apart and rest a while” from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Through our work of hospitality, we welcome those of all ages who wish to share the peace and prayerfulness of our convent and garden. Our Convent is available most of the year to individuals or groups of all denominations wishing to pray and reflect in the quiet atmosphere of Glenvale.

SCHOOL RETREATS:
Youth retreats are offered and facilitated by the Sisters in keeping with the developmental stage of the young people who come, such as Confirmation Retreats as well as retreats to suit both Junior and Senior students. Students are presented with various workshops during the day which involve creativity, music, art, meditation, discussion, film etc. They are free also to explore the beautiful grounds here in Glenvale during their break and lunchtime.
ONE DAY RETREAT:
This includes input from the sisters and use of the facilities
(tea, coffee and biscuits provided – students bring a packed lunch)
Primary: £6.00 per student
Post Primary: £8.50 per student
RETREATS FOR ADULTS:
A time of retreat will give you the opportunity to relax and take a break from the demands of your daily life. Our retreats facilitated by the Sisters are designed to help all who come to Glenvale, deepen their awareness of God’s love and care of them in the uniqueness of their lives. In Glenvale you will find plenty of time to relax, go for walks, rest and spend time with the Lord.
To gain maximum benefit and to be fully immersed in the peace of Glenvale some people may opt to stay for a longer period of time. Our Convent reflects the simplicity of the Franciscan way of life. We offer warm, clean and comfortable residential accommodation (ensuite single rooms) which can be booked using the contact details provided. Our amenities include onsite parking, quiet gardens, peaceful Chapel and meditation rooms, as well as the stunning countryside which is safe for long walks. Al meals are provided during your stay … home cooked and delicious! We are situated close to the city of Newry. Guests can chose to have a private retreat or avail of prayer guidance from the Sisters.
